Holmdel, NJ - As Patch has reported, Holmdel was indeed close to choosing a new schools superintendent:

Dr. Robert McGarry was selected in late May by the Board of Education as the new superintendent. He was previously an assistant superintendent at Holmdel public schools. He replaces current superintendent Barbara Duncan, who announced in 2015 she was leaving the district after ten years.

His term is effective July 1, 2016. The board voted unanimously to approve a three-year contract for him.

Prior to Holmdel, McGarry, 50, worked in the administration at Shore Regional High School and within the Montville and East Brunswick school districts. He received his doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008. He lives in Long Branch.

School Board President Joe Hammer said McGarry surfaced as the best candidate to lead the district after the Board conducted an extensive, nationwide search for Duncan’s successor. A pool of over 60 candidates was whittled down to a group of finalists who participated in three rounds of interviews before the Board made its final choice.
