NJ Ranks Among Most Educated States In 2022: Study

Based on the annual WalletHub study, New Jersey has ranked as the one of the most educated states in America. Here's how the state fared:

NEW JERSEY — According to the WalletHub report of 2022’s most and least educated states in America, New Jersey tops the list of the most educated states, placing in sixth overall.

In order to determine the most educated states, WalletHub compared all 50 states across 18 separate metrics that highlight the primary factors of a well-educated population. According to WalletHub, those metrics are educational attainment, school quality and achievement gaps between genders and races.

  • 28th–Percentage of High-School Diploma Holders
  • 23rd–Percentage of Associate's Degree Holders or College-Experienced Adults
  • 4th–Percentage of Bachelor’s Degree Holders
  • 7th–Percentage of Graduate- or Professional-Degree Holders
  • 13th–Average University Quality
  • 1st–Gender Gap in Educational Attainment

Having access to a well-rounded education opens the door to more career opportunities. According to a study by The United States Department of Labor, the higher level of education a person completes, the lower their chance of unemployment is.

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics also showed that a typical worker with a bachelor’s degree earns, on average, $26,000 more per year than a worker with just a high school diploma.
