An Open Letter to Holmdel Residents ...
A high-density housing project on Holmdel's border can have devasting impact on our town.

As your Mayor, it’s my duty to ensure I’m protecting our town at all times. That’s why I wanted you to know now about an ongoing lawsuit against Middletown that could have a devastating impact on Holmdel.
A developer, Adoni Property Group, is suing Middletown to put more than 450 housing units on Red Hill Road (near Sloan-Kettering) and Nut Swamp Road in Middletown as part of an affordable housing development project. It’s clear to anyone in the area that the local infrastructure simply cannot support such massive complexes. In my mind, the impact will likely create significant congestion, rapidly degrade our roadways, and force residents to bypass the area by cutting through other neighborhoods – creating a cascade of disruption that will be felt for miles. Further, given the elevation of the currently undeveloped property, I have concerns about environmental impact and storm water run-off (something we’re already struggling with).
Our neighbors in Middletown are fighting this as hard as they can, and Holmdel is doing so too. Holmdel has attempted to “intervene” in the case twice, but we have been rejected both times by the trial judge. In our second attempt, the judge referenced Holmdel’s own actions in satisfying its affordable housing development obligations, which I believe demonstrated a troubling bias leading to the decision preventing Holmdel from entering the lawsuit.

We have immediately taken steps to file an appeal of this decision, which is part of our continued attempt to enter this lawsuit and fight against this high-density housing proposal on Holmdel’s border.
To support our efforts – a resident has created an online petition that will also be available in print form at Town Hall. Feel free to pick up a printed version, sign online, and share any way you can. This petition will be submitted with our appeal of the judge’s decision.

Often, when projects like this happen, residents find out about it too late and wonder what happened to the quiet, rural town that they chose to raise their children in. This time it’s different. You now know what’s happening early enough to hopefully influence the outcome.
Sign the Petition and Support the Fight Against High-Density Housing.
Thank you.
