Holmdel Police Chase Suspects Peering Into Cars On Monterey Ct.

After a resident called 911 to report a suspicious SUV on Monterey Court at 1:20 a.m., Holmdel police pursued the vehicle onto the Parkway.

HOLMDEL, NJ — Holmdel Police, cracking down after a rash of car break-ins and thefts, chased a car to the Garden State Parkway after the driver and passengers were reported to have been looking inside cars early Monday morning.

The occupants were reported to have been peering inside cars on Monterey Court around 1:20 a.m. Monday. A resident called 911 to report people coming out of a dark-colored SUV and looking inside cars in the area of Monterey Court.

Holmdel police located the car on Hwy. 34 and tried to pull the car over. The SUV did not stop and police briefly chased it; the pursuit was eventually terminated at the Garden State Parkway. (New Jersey police have been instructed not to engage in high-speed car chases to protect the safety of the police and general public.)

The suspect vehicle was a dark colored, newer model Dodge Durango.

As Patch reported, two unlocked Mercedes were stolen from Holmdel driveways in late April, and unlocked cars were entered and rifled through on Mother's Day. On May 9, a Middletown homeowner tried to stop his car from being stolen — the suspects went into his garage and drove the car out. The man was dragged by the suspects alongside the vehicle. He sustained a non-life-threatening injury. This happened at 5:37 p.m. at a home on Windermere Road in the Lincroft section of the township.
