HOLMDEL, NJ — At a recent Holmdel Township Committee meeting it was announced that the Holmdel Swim Club recently received a multi-month structural assessment by professional engineers.

James Oris, a representative from Remington & Vernick Engineers, attended the Tuesday night committee meeting where he revealed the findings. "We conducted visual assessments of the facilities. We broke the facility down into three major components with one being a structural component. The other being the overall site, including the pools and then the mechanical, electrical and plumbing assets."

According to Oris, the assessment concluded that the facility has been kept in good condition but needed updates. "It's not that it's been neglected, it is just that some of the componenets are nearing the end of its useful life."

While the Remington & Vernick team did not find any immediate health and safety hazards, there were structural issues that were being "temporarily maintained" instead of properly fixed.

The assessment report included a list of both near and long-term improvement opportunities, which included viable options for new amenities for the community. Also included in the report were cost estimates for future repairs, along with three separate concept plans.

"Summarizing, the cost of the repairs, the immediate repairs and improvements are approximately $1.3M... the recommended repairs are approximately $500,000 and then optimal improvements are approximately $1.8 million." stated Oris.

The initial concept plan presented included the installation of a new spray park. "We do feel that it is something that would improve the member experience and alternate recreation for different age levels." stated Oris

Other improvements included adding a new playground along with new tennis and pickle ball courts.

Concept plan two highlighted potential jogging pathways and additional basketball and tennis courts.

The third plan includes a new paved parking lot along with an outdoor covered area for community events. An indoor recreational facility was also mentioned, specifically an indoor swim pool.

The Holmdel Township Committee was in agreement regarding the report and plan on including the topic in upcoming meetings.
