Retired Army General And Holmdel Son To Be Honored

HOLMDEL, NJ — Retired U.S. Army Gen. John H. Tilelli Jr., who was raised in Holmdel, will be honored by the Township Committee at a ceremony to dedicate a portion of Crawford's Corner Road in his honor.

Prior to retirement, Tilelli served as Vice Chief of Staff of the United States Army, Commanding General of the United States Army Forces Command, and Commander-in-Chief of the United Nations Command, Deputy Clerk Brian O'Malley said in a news release.

Tilelli served two tours in the Vietnam War, four in Germany and three in the Pentagon. His combat tours include assignments as a company commander in Vietnam and as commander of the 1st Cavalry Division during the Gulf War, according to online information.

The event will take place on Thursday, July 14, at 11 a.m. at Holmdel Fire Station, 12 Crawford's Corner Road, Holmdel, 07733, the news release said.

The Mayor and Township Committee will be on hand to formally dedicate the roadway and reveal the dedication sign to the public.

All members of the public are welcome to attend, and a special invitation is extended to Holmdel veterans, active members of the military, and Gold Star families or veterans' families.

No registration is required for the dedication ceremony.
