New Salary Ranges for the Holmdel Township Workforce Approved
The Township Committee finally approves an annual ordinance setting 2011 salary ranges for Holmdel Township employees.

Last February, the Township Committee introduced its annual salary ordinance but never adopted it. The overdue ordinance was finally approved on Dec. 1 by Mayor Patrick Impreveduto, Deputy Mayor Serena DiMaso and Committeeman Larry Fink. (Committeemen Eric Hinds and Rocco Pascucci were absent.) The new ranges would be retroactive, back to Jan. 1, 2011.
The new salary ranges run higher in some cases, which had caused Fink to object against the salary ordinance introduction at the February 17 and Nov. 17 meeting. "In the severe economic climate that we're in, and the budgetary constraints we are facing in Holmdel, obviously we need to be very, very careful about payroll. It's our biggest line item, if you will, the salary and benefits we pay our employees." He called for revisiting the upper end column of the range to reflect what he called a more "conservative" and "realistic" number.
But on Dec. 1, he said he had since seen employee salaries against the salary ranges, and realized they were consistent with what people were actually being paid. He withdrew his objection.

The legal notice says employees would have 15 paid holidays per year, and that negotiated agreements with certain departments may include provisions for additional compensation for longevity, college credits attained, holiday pay, detective pay, vacation pay and lead man responsibilities. The payments, when added to the basic compensation, would remain within the ranges of salaries set forth in the ordinance.
These are the salary ranges, as published by the township clerk in the Nov. 22 public notice section of the Asbury Park Press:
