West Long Branch Campers In Holmdel School Bus Crash

The buses were transporting 107 kids from a day camp in West Long Branch to the Strathmore Lanes bowling alley in Aberdeen.

HOLMDEL, NJ — Two school buses carrying day campers to Strathmore Lanes bowling alley were involved in an accident in Holmdel late Wednesday morning, police confirmed, but none of the children were seriously injured.

The children, 107 in total, were from a day camp in West Long Branch and not from the Holmdel area.

The accident occurred at 11 a.m. on Hwy. 34 near the Rt. 520/Newman Springs Road intersection. When officers got there, they found that two school buses had collided while traveling on Hwy. 34 northbound. The buses were transporting day campers from a youth camp in West Long Branch to the Strathmore Lanes bowling alley in Aberdeen.

The school buses were traveling together and when the first school bus slowed for traffic, the second bus rear-ended it.

Seven children were treated for minor injuries at the scene and released by the Holmdel First Aid Squad and Colts Neck First Aid Squad. Patch was told by sources at the scene that two children were carried out on backboards, but Holmdel police could not confirm that.

Both buses were owned by Seamen Tov, based out of Ocean, NJ. Anyone who witnessed the accident or has further information is asked to contact Ptl. Martin, Holmdel PD at 732-946-4400.
