HOLMDEL,N.J.— Take time out of your evening Tuesday for an artistic interval at Bell Works in Holmdel.

Bell Works — the re-imagined space of the enormous former Bell Labs building — will have a grand opening of a spring art exhibition: “Rebirth into the Light,” highlighting the work of local artist Franki DeSaro, curated by Paola Zamudio. The show also will feature sculptures by Sarah Meyohas.

DeSaro, a New Jersey native with a studio in Red Bank, is the co-founder of a nonprofit organization Light to Earth Sanctuary founded in 2018. Light to Earth is a safe oasis for women, children and animals on a farm in New Jersey. Light to Earth Sanctuary has served more than 700 families in the tri-state area, her profile says.

Meyohas is a conceptual artist, whose practice considers the nature and capabilities of emerging technologies in contemporary society, according to her website.

In her role as creative director, Zamudio highlights local and international talent at Bell Works, 101 Crawford Corner's Road, here, where a second life has been given to an architectural masterpiece of a building designed by Eero Saarinen that once was Bell Labs, said publicist Ayelet Ehrenkranz.

Through DeSaro’s art, “divine moments” are created through large-scale, immersive environments of subtlety and illumination through ethereal washes of acrylic on cotton, canvas and soft materials, the press statement says.

Meyohas has created four sculptures that fill the space like “standing alien sarcophagi undergoing a ritualistic software update,” the statement says.

The grand opening will take place at the Block at Bell Works from 5 to 8 p.m.on May 17.

In addition to complimentary bites and refreshments, a live performance by Axelrod Contemporary Ballet Theater and Axelrod Performing Arts Academy. Ocean Township, will take place at 5:45 p.m.
