Storage Facility To Replace Former Hazlet Shop Rite

The Route 36 building, which has remained vacant for years, is getting a new 'lease' on life.

HAZLET, NJ - A Route 36 superstore building that has remained vacant for years is finally getting a new ‘lease’ on life, according to township documents.

Snapbox Self Storage is slated to move into the former Route 36 Shop Rite store following approval by Hazlet’s Land Use Board this week. The 43,464-square-foot space into 345 storage units, according to the Asbury Park Press.

The site was a Foodtown grocery store before Shop Rite took over the space. The building has been left vacant since the grocer moved out of the facility in 2013.

The entire building is expected to be renovated, complete with a new façade, doors, windows and lighting.

Hazlet is anticipated to be the storage company’s eighth location in the state. It currently touts 23 storage facilities in eight states, its website reads.

A representative from Snapbox Self Storage did not immediately respond to a request for comment. It was not immediately clear when the storage facility is expected to open.
