Tax Assessment Inspections Coming To Hazlet Property Owners
Starting this year, Hazlet Township will perform inspections, both interior and exterior, of all properties for the Assessor's records.
HAZLET, NJ — Hazlet Township has a contract with Appraisal Systems Inc. (ASI) to perform interior and exterior property inspections for the assessor's records. This contract is for a 5-year inspection cycle, and all properties must be inspected once during that time.
The Hazlet tax assessor has yet to announce the official start date of the inspections.
This year, all property owners subject to an inspection will receive a letter in the mail with instructions prior to their inspection, at which time the resident will have the option to conduct a remote virtual inspection if they so desire.

If the owner is not present when the inspector arrives, a notice stating that an attempt was made to inspect the premises will be attached to the door, along with contact information for ASI to return for an inspection.
According to the tax assessor, the inspection routes are predetermined, but ASI will do their best to accommodate residents.

The property inspections allow the township to keep accurate property records that are used to complete annual reassessments, which are an important component in the equitable distribution of taxes.
"An increase in the assessment does not correlate to an increase in taxes. The assessment function is only a distribution mechanism of the separately determined tax levy," officials said.
