Scouts from Holmdel’s Troop 131 served their community well in performing three large service projects this past spring. They cleaned up litter and trash that had accumulated over years at Holmdel’s Phillips and Veterans Parks and the roadways nearby, as well as working on the rehabilitation and creation of trails along Hop Brook as part of the Ramanessin Trail improvement program.
On 3/5/17 the scouts of Troop 131 and their parents turned out in force to participate in the Holmdel Clean Communities program. They spent the morning cleaning up Phillips and Veterans parks and Telegraph Hill and S. Holland roadsides of all litter and construction debris. They gathered a huge haul in the sun, with the scouts finding tires, 20+ feet of metal pipe, an iPhone, rearview mirror and lots of trash. Big thanks to Will Johnson, Barbara Kovelesky, Bob Ward and Victor Stevens for supplying the cleanup materials and site selection as part of the Monmouth County and Holmdel Clean Communities programs! Their aid is very much appreciated as always.
Throughout March and April, 2017, the Scouts from Troops 131 and 331 and Venturers from Crews 10 and 85, under the guidance of Crew 10 Advisor Larry Fink, contributed a total of 225 volunteer hours of community service to the Ramanessin Brook Greenway Trail Building and Maintenance Project in Holmdel. The scouts helped clear trail ways and laid wood chips on muddy sections of the existing paths, as well as starting to lay the groundwork for the new trail extension to run from Holmdel High School to Bell Works.
