Wires Down In Holmdel Park, Brush Fire Reported

There were electric wires down and a small brush fire across the street from Longstreet Farm as of 12 p.m. Wednesday.

HOLMDEL, NJ — There were electric wires down across the street from Longstreet Farm and a very small brush fire near Holmdel Park as of 12 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

There was also a very small brush fire in that area, not in Holmdel Park, but across the street from Longstreet Farm on Roberts Road, said Holmdel Mayor Greg Buontempo.

It remains unknown if the wires fell and caused the brush fire, or if the brush fire started first and then caused the wires to fall. Heat from the ground can bring down electric utility wires, said JCP&L spokesman Chris Hoenig.

But the downed wires did cause about 1,000 Holmdel residents to lose electricity Wednesday afternoon, confirmed JCP&L.

"At approximately 1 p.m., JCP&L experienced an outage affecting approximate 1,000 customers in Holmdel," said Hoenig. "Some of these customers had to have their power temporarily shut off to allow crews to safely repair damage in the area. All affected customers were restored shortly after 1:30 p.m."
