Woman Drives Into Plastic Surgery Center Near Bayshore Hospital

An 85-year-old woman drove through the bathroom of the doctors' office Tuesday, police said.

HOLMDEL, NJ - An 85-year-old woman accidentally drove into a building on North Beers Street Tuesday, Holmdel police said, after she mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake. The accident happened at 2:24 p.m. at 733 North Beers Street, the office of a plastic surgery business near Bayshore hospital. She drove through the bathroom of the doctors' office, police said.

Upon arrival, police found the red Acura sedan had crashed through an exterior building wall. Both the car and the building sustained extensive damage. The vehicle crashed through the concrete exterior wall and continued traveling through an interior bathroom wall leading to a physician’s office, police said.

The vehicle operator, an 85-year-old female from Aberdeen, suffered a head injury as a result of the collision. She was transported to Bayshore Community Hospital by the Holmdel First Aid Squad. The Holmdel Fire Department and MONOC Paramedics also assisted on scene.

The investigation revealed that she became confused while parking her vehicle, and accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake pedal.

The plastic surgery office had to be inspected by the Holmdel Building Department after the crash.
