Hopatcong Officials Deny Rumors Of Senior Center Closure

Borough says senior nutrition and lunch programs remain fully operational despite recent misinformation.

HOPATCONG, NJ — Hopatcong borough officials are pushing back against what they describe as false and misleading information circulating publicly about the future of the borough’s senior center and nutrition program.

In a statement issued May 8, the borough said the Hopatcong Senior Center is not closing and that its lunch and nutrition services are not at risk.

“We want to make it perfectly clear that the Senior Center is NOT closing nor is the lunch program in any way in harms way,” the borough said in the statement.

Officials said the Hopatcong Senior Center is the largest nutrition lunch facility in Sussex County and remains fully supported by municipal leadership.

The statement acknowledged that the facility recently experienced staffing shortages and operational issues but said those concerns have since been addressed.

“We are aware of the daily issues that may occur from time to time and recent staff shortages that have been rectified,” officials said.

The borough also emphasized its continued commitment to senior services and nutrition programming.

“Make no mistake the Borough of Hopatcong is 100% committed to the senior and nutrition site,” the statement said.

Officials encouraged residents with concerns or questions to contact the borough directly through the “Contact Us” or “Report a Concern” sections of the municipal website rather than relying on outside information sources.

The statement did not specify how the rumors about the senior center closure began.
