SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ — A Sussex County man is headed to prison after authorities discovered a handgun in a storage locker belonging to him.
Kyle P. Talmadge, 36, of Hardyston, was sentenced to five years in prison after he admitted to possessing a handgun without a valid New Jersey permit, police said.
According to officials, investigators received information that Talmadge had been holding a firearm in a storage locker in his name.
Authorities searched the storage locker to find a .45 caliber handgun, which Talmadge did not have a permit for, police say.
Talmadge was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun without having a valid NJ permit to carry. He pleaded guilty to the charge in August.
He was sentenced to five years in prison on Oct. 9 and won't be eligible for parole for three and a half years. He was also ordered to pay $155 in court fees and fines.
Talmadge was previously convicted of non-fatally shooting a man in the head in 2008, according to NJ.com.
