HOPEWELL, NJ — A Hopewell farm is getting statewide recognition for helping students better understand where their food comes from.
The New Jersey Department of Agriculture presented Fairgrown Farm with its Farmer Recognition Farm to School Award on Sept. 25 during Jersey Fresh Farm to School Week and Ag Literacy Week.
Fairgrown Farm was started in 2018 by brothers James and Alex Klett. Through the Fairgrown Collaborative, established in 2022, they now partner with more than 40 farms across New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Fairgrown Farm owner James Klett said working with schools changed how he viewed his role as a farmer.
"As farmers, we also have an opportunity to be ambassadors for agriculture," Klett said, helping students understand where food comes from and connect with farms and farmland.
