Hopewell Drivers Told To Go With The Flow Around Water Main Work

HOPEWELL, NJ — Hopewell Borough drivers will have to go with the flow again next week as water main construction keeps part of West Broad Street under a weekday detour.

New Jersey American Water’s project will continue Monday through Friday, weather permitting. West Broad Street will be detoured at Louellen Street, also known as Route 518, and Van Dyke Road while crews install the new water main.

Only residents and customers of businesses inside the construction area will be permitted through. Those businesses remain open, and traffic officers can help visitors reach them, borough officials said.

The work matters because it could complicate commutes, errands and trips near Hopewell Elementary School just as families return to their school-year routines. Contractors will also replace meters on Columbia Avenue, Seminary Avenue and South Maple Street, although no road closures are planned there.

Limited service interruptions or changes in water pressure are possible. Residents who notice cloudy or discolored water should run the cold water “for a few moments until it clears up,” according to the borough.

No overnight work is planned. Residents can receive project alerts through their MyWater accounts or by texting “WATER” to 24639, helping them avoid surprises before heading out.
