Washington Marched Through Here: Hopewell Celebrates America's 250th Anniversary

The township, part of the Continental Army's route to the Battle of Trenton, is marking the milestone with events through November.

Hopewell Township has announced a series of events as part of America's 250th, also known as the Semiquincentennial — the national commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The township's connection to the founding era is well-documented. In the days following George Washington's crossing of the Delaware River in December 1776, the Continental Army marched through what is now Hopewell Township on the way to the pivotal victory at the Battle of Trenton — a turning point in the Revolutionary War.
