Howell Affordable Housing Site Plans To Be Finalized Thursday
A site plan for a low-to-moderate income housing development in Howell will be reviewed by the planning board on Sept. 3.
HOWELL, NJ – The Howell Township Planning Board will be reviewing preliminary and final site plans for a new residential development at a Thursday night virtual meeting. The multi-building development complex under review is slated to include over 300 residential units for low-to-moderate income households, according to planning board documents.
The 319 units on the building site (dubbed “Views at Monmouth Manor”) on Fort Plains Road and Sunnyside Road are set to include 72 market rate single-family lots, 155 market rate townhome residential units and 92 condominium units.
The applicants, FP Howell, LLC and the Estate of William Whalen by Gina Bettencourt, John Berkoben and Ruth Bennett, are also proposing two boulevard-style roadways along the Fort Plains Road site, as well as two monument-style site identification signs, landscape and lighting improvements on Fort Plains Road and Sunnyside Road, according to Thursday's meeting agenda.

Critics of the project have voiced concerns about the construction on the undeveloped land, with some arguing that increased construction in the township is squashing Howell’s historic roots in agriculture and farming.
The meeting will be livestreamed on Youtube via this link and on the township website.
