4 Kids Left In Hot Car While Mom Shopped In Howell, Report Says

The woman had gone shopping at Walmart, the report said.

HOWELL, NJ — An Ocean County woman is accused of leaving four children in a hot car on Sunday while she shopped at Walmart in Howell, according to a report.

Rivka Shapiro, 24, of Lakewood, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, the Asbury Park Press reported.

The children — Shapiro's 6-month-old daughter, year-old daughter, 3-year-old son and an 11-year-old girl she was watching — were found in her 2014 Toyota Camry, which was left running, the report said. They had been there for more than 20 minutes.

The temperature was about 80 degrees at the time, shortly after 1 p.m. on Sunday, the report said.

The children were sweating when Howell police arrived, and were treated by EMS but unharmed, the report said.
