Student Brought Gun To Middle School In Monmouth County But It Was Fake, Police Say

The student created the firearm using a 3D printer, Howell police said.

HOWELL, NJ — A middle school student used a 3D printer to create a fake firearm and brought it to school on Tuesday, Howell Township police said.

The firearm was confirmed by police to be inoperable and not functioning, Howell police said. The student was not identified.

"At this time, there are no safety concerns regarding any students," police said.

The incident happened at Howell Middle School North. Police were called to the school at 7:30 a.m. after the firearm was reported to staff at the school, police said.

Investigators learned the student created the firearm using a 3-D printer and brought it on the bus to school, police said. It was quickly retrieved by school personnel.

The investigation is continuing, police said.
