Take classes for free with Monmouth County Library’s Universal Class

Now that you’re getting ready to send the kids back to school, maybe it’s time you considered taking a class or two yourself.

 

Take classes for free with the Monmouth County Library’s new Universal Class database. All you need is your library card!

The Universal Class database offers hundreds of non-college credit continuing education courses ranging from history, art and math to real estate, computer technology and even beauty lessons.

Universal Class also offers courses to help homeschoolers, those who are seeking GED training, and entrepreneurs looking to start a business.

 

You can take these courses from your home on your own computer, at your own pace! To access the database, click on the Monmouth County Library’s webpage, www.monmouthcountylib.org

 

Choose the “Electronic Resources” link from the list on the left hand side of the screen, and then click on “quick links.” An alphabetical listing of the Library’s databases will appear – just scroll down to Universal Class and click to get started.

 

To enroll in your course:

 

  • You will need to create an online account and have a valid e-mail address to sign up for the courses. There is no charge for the courses.

  • You are welcome to enroll in up to 5 courses at one time.

  • You have up to 6 months to finish each course.

  • You have access to your course 24/7 via the Internet.

  • Attend class and do assignments on your schedule.

  • Each course has a real instructor who you may communicate with using e-mail.

 

  • You can be given a grade for the course.

 

These are non-credit courses provided for your personal enrichment. These courses are not intended to be a substitute for any state, government, licensing, or educational requirements.

 

The courses will not transfer as college credits. However, Universal Class is an approved International Association for Continuing and Training (IACET) authorized providerIACET is the premier standards-setting organization for continuing education and training. IACET authorized providers are an elite group of educators dedicated to quality in continuing education and training.

 

Universal Class offers IACET CEUs for their online courses. CEU stands for Continuing Education Unit. A CEU is not the same as 'college credit'. CEUs are the industry measurement of non-credit education. One (1) CEU equals 10 contact hours.
