The Howell Township Education Foundation is once again gearing up for its annual Race to Educate.
Larry Gurman, the foundation's director, said each year the race draws more people and he is hopeful this time around will be no exception. In an effort to attract more interest this year's event will not only feature a 5K race but also a one-mile fun run for younger participants.
Like last year's race this year there is also an added bonus for the local schools to participate. The school with the most registrations will receive a $1000 grant from the foundation.

Last year the grant went to and Principal Albert Bohrer said he is hopeful his school will once again lead the way. "The Ramtown School is very proud to have won the trophy last year as a result of the highest percentage of school participation," he said.
Bohrer said his school was able to use the money from the grant to buy materials for the students, which is what makes the race such a special event. "The Race to Educate has truly developed into a wonderful event to support our district's schools," he said calling it "something we can certainly be proud of as a school community."

The fun run will start at 8:30 while the regular race is slated to kick off at 9 a.m. Gurman said participants should arrive at at least an hour before the race starts in order to allow time for registration.
The course for this year's race will also be different from previous years due to on Ramtown Greenville Rd. Gurman said the course has been marked and will be monitored by the Howell Police Department to ensure everyone knows where they should go.
As part of their mission Gurman said the foundation gives grants to the schools to help them purchase items not covered under their budgets. "We intend to keep doing that," he said.
For those interested there will be registration on race day. The cost is $25 per person and the race is scheduled to be held rain or shine. For more information check out their website.
