Board of Education to Meet Tonight

Possible change to meeting schedule on the agenda

Wednesday marks the last day of school this week for Howell students in observance of the Veterans Day holiday. Before the doors are closed for the weekend, the Board of Education will be meeting tonight at 8 p.m. at Middle School North.

With a full agenda, one of the items up for discussion figures to be a proposed change to the way meetings are scheduled. Superintendent Enid Golden lists a possible alternate meeting calendar as part of her report for the meeting. When the board met last month there was talk of moving to a monthly meeting as opposed to the current two meeting a month plan currently utilized.

Other items up for discussion include additional state aid being awarded to the district that could help with the upcoming school year.

As the district looks for the best ways to help students in the district there also figures to be discussion on the creation of a new position known as a Literacy Coach. According to the job description posted on the district's website the ideal candidate would have at least five years experience as a teacher and be familiar with the Writer's and Reader's Workshop.

The Literacy Coach would then help teach and coach other teachers in how to most effectively utilize those programs and would report to the district's Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and the Language Arts Supervisor.
