Presented by Teaching Artist Jenny Santa Maria
In this hands-on charcoal workshop, you'll learn the same observation techniques artists have used for centuries to create realistic drawings. Working from flowers, fruit, and other interesting objects, you'll discover that drawing isn't about talent- it's about learning how to see. You'll discover that realistic drawing is a skill anyone can learn with the right approach. Learn the basics of charcoal drawing as you work with professional materials, including charcoal, newsprint, and kneaded erasers, while drawing from fresh flowers, fruit, and curated still lifes. Expect a little charcoal dust along the way, so wear an old shirt.
