'Challenge' Accepted as Howell Takes on Manalapan

Students take part in MSG Varsity Quiz Show

As rivals in the A North Division teams from Howell and Manalapan High Schools have squared off on the wrestling mats, the football fields and many other athletic arenas. Tonight students from the two schools will compete in the second round of MSG Varsity's "The Challenge."

Howell High School is one of 47 schools from around the state taking part in the regional portion of the tournament working to advance to the Tri-State Championship playoffs. 

The show is hosted by Jared Cotter who serves as the moderator during a competition where students are tested on their knowledge of history, arts, current events and other subjects.

The local school will be represented by Nicholas Ferraro, Sara Hartzell, Danielle Yucht, Anna Donio and alternate Courtney Davis. Hartzell is the captain of the squad and the academic advisors are Annette Kinsley and Rose Elgayar. 

Broadcast on MSG Varsity "The Challenge," includes 192 schools from across Long Island, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Westchester and Connecticut. The teams are competing for the $2500 that comes with winning the regional championship. The region winners will then take part in the Tri-State Showdown and the chance to win $10,000 in prize money and the chance to win $500 for participating in the championship game.

The match will be shown tonight at 6:30 on Cablevision Channel 14.
