Last week for at least one night the lanes at were completely sold out while local businesses took some time to have fun and network at an event put on by the chamber of commerce.
The annual Bowlathon had something for everybody on Thursday. Not only did the groups taking part get the chance to roll three games, they also got the chance to sample food from various vendors in town and listen to some music provided by a local DJ.
For just $75 members were able to bring their employees for some out of the office fun in what chamber Executive Director Susan Dominguez said was the biggest turnout in the event's six year history. "For $75 to be able to bring four of your staff and bowl three games and have it include food and entertainment, you can't do anything that compares to that," she said.

Dominguez said that the fact that all 32 lanes were sold out was even more impressive considering the economic situation most members find themselves in. "That says something because of the economy that people really do want to bring their staff out and their friends," she noted. "It's a nice way to say thank you.
Not only was the event a chance for employees of different companies to meet and greet, it also gave some of the contributors a chance to show off what they contribute to the community on a daily basis. The food was provided by several local restaurants including Applebee's, and . It also gave a place like the chance to promote their pending addition of items from Nathan's Hot Dogs to their menu in the early fall.

Two of the events chair-people were Tommy Campagna and Gene-Ann Pesano. Both were thrilled with the turnout for the popular gathering. "It's a lot of fun. It brings everybody together. All the businesses, all their friends, it's really great," Campagna said.
Pesano, a self confessed bowler said she was glad to see such a strong turnout while doing something she greatly enjoys doing in her spare time anyway. In addition to prizes for the top game and the highest scores, she also said there were other prizes distributed as well. Other awards were given for best dressed, the lowest score of the day as well as the youngest and oldest competitors.
Sharon Nasta, the manager of the lanes said she was glad to see so many of her fellow chamber members come out for a fun night. "It got bigger each year," she said. "A couple years ago it was a little light, but it's back to capacity now." Nasta said the Howell Lanes are a regular location for fundraisers and community activities. That includes during the holiday season when they host area children when Santa and Mrs. Clause make an appearance.
There is still time before the residents from the North Pole make the trip to Howell, but it was still a good time had by the slightly more local competitors on the lanes.
