Chamber to Hold Events to Help Companies Navigate Internet Age

Social networking and search engine help to be provided this month

In these tough economic times businesses of all shapes and sizes need all the help they can get to get their names out to as many people as possible.

Because of that, the Howell Chamber of Commerce will be holding two events to help members and non members alike get more recognition on search engines like Google and improve their visibility on social networking sites like Facebook and Google.

The first event is a "Lunch n Learn," set for this coming Thursday at 11:45 at  on Route 9 and will focus on the social media aspect of business. For $10 per person, those in attendance will get a light lunch while listening to and learning from Linda Coppolino of Little Hat Marketing and Design. Coppolino will show the benefits of having a presence on sites like Facebook and Twitter and what that can do to help a company.

Then, on Thursday July 28 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  will host an event showing how companies can move up the ladder for searches on sites like Google. The speaker at that event will be Robert Wagner who works as Patient and Community Relations coordinator of the Affiliated Foot and Ankle Center. His talk will focus on how blogging can be helpful in getting a company attention on sites like Google so more people will go to the respective websites.  The event is being sponsored by the chamber's medical division, but is open to all those interested with a $15 dollar fee covering admission to the program as well as dinner.

Sue Dominguez, the Executive Director of the chamber said events like these are good ways to get the word out about how businesses can help themselves and their community. "Especially in these challenging times we're trying to constantly give our members new ways to get thir name out and get the word out," she said.

Even with a presence on Facebook as well as Twitter and a website, Dominguez said these face to face meetings still provide an invaluable resource for those who attend them. That was proven recently when the chamber held a "Breakfast Bonanza" event at St. Veronica's where close to 40 people came out to interact and network. A similar event is scheduled to be held July 22 at 8 a.m. at the church on Route 9.

Whether the people attending are members, or potential members, or just looking to improve their business, Dominguez said just them being there is a help to everyone involved. "The whole point is trying to get people just to come out, network, refer and let everybody help one another during these difficult times."
