Convenience Store Clerk Robbed At Gunpoint: Howell Police

Breaking: The armed man demanded cash and a pack of Marlboro Red cigarettes, police said. The robbery remains under investigation.

HOWELL, NJ — Howell Township police are searching for a man they say robbed the Country Farms convenience store at gunpoint early Wednesday morning.

Detective Sgt. Christian Antunez said the robbery at the County Farms, located at 947 Route 524 (also known as Adelphia Road) happened about 5:40 a.m.

Howell police responded to a 911 call and the store employee told police the robber pointed a black semiautomatic handgun at the clerk and demanded cash and a pack of Marlboro Red cigarettes, Antunez said. ("Marlboro Red" is how many smokers differentiate between regular Marlboro and the cigarettes that previously were referred to as Marlboro "lights" that come in gold packaging.)

The employee turned over the cash and the cigarettes and the robber stuffed them into bag and left the store, Antunez said. There were no shots fired, no assault and no one was imjured in the robbery, he said.

The suspect is a white male who was wearing a black mask covering his face, Antunez said. The matter is under investigation by the Howell Police Department Investigations Unit, and more detailed information will be forthcoming in the near future, he said.
