If you have old tax records you no longer need, old bills or other paperwork, this is your opportunity to get rid of them safely.

HOWELL, NJ — If you're looking to get rid of documents you no longer need but want to protect yourself from identity theft, mark May 18 on the calendar: Howell will be hosting a document-shredding event.

The event is funded by Monmouth County and will be held at Adelphia School, 485 Adelphia Road, Howell, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, and is a free service for Monmouth County residents.

You are permitted to shred a maximum of 100 pounds of documents. Remove all binder clips, but staples and paper clips can remain, officials said.
