Dryer Fire Damages Howell Home On New Year's Night

The family and their pet cat escaped the fire safely, officials said.

HOWELL, NJ — A dryer fire on Monday damaged a Glen Arden home but the family and its cat escaped without injury, according to firefighters and witnesses.

Firefighters and police responded to the home on Glen Arden Drive shortly before 10:30 p.m. for a report of a dryer fire in the basement, according to a Facebook post by Southard Fire Department 1.

The fire had developed into a structure fire by the time firefighters arrived, and with the assistance of firefighters from Freewood Acres, Adelphia and Jackson Station 55, the fire was knocked down.

Ramtown Fire Company provided coverage until scene was cleared, the Southard post said.

The full extent of damage to the home was not immediately available from official sources.
