Fire Damages Howell Applebee's On New Year's Day
The fire remains under investigation and the restaurant is closed temporarily, police said.
HOWELL, NJ — A fire damaged part of the interior at the Applebee's at Howell Commons early on New Year's Day, fire officials said.
Howell Township police and officials with Southard Fire Company said the fire, which was reported shortly before 9 a.m., was in the restaurant's kitchen area and was sending flames out of the duct exhaust system when firefighters arrived.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, police said and the restaurant will be closed for an unknown length of time.

Southard officials said they received assistance from mutual aid companies from Adelphia Fire Company, Freewood Acres Fire Company No. 1, Jackson Twp Vol Fire Co #1 - Station 55. The Howell Township Fire Bureau, Howell Township Office of Emergency Management also responded.
New Jersey Natural Gas and Jersey Central Power & Light responded, as did the Monmouth County Health Department, officials said.
