Blaze Destroys Howell Home

The fire happened at a Hampton Road address, police said.

HOWELL, NJ -- A fire gutted a home in the Salem Hill section of Howell on Saturday as firefighters battled it amid hot temperatures.

Howell Township police posted videos on Facebook showing smoke and flames billowing from the home.

Southard Fire Company said it initially responded to a report of a mulch fire but soon sent to the structure fire at Hampton Road, and called in mutual aid as the fire quickly spread.

Firefighters from Ramtown Fire Company, Adelphia Fire Company, and Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Company 1 responded, along with Howell Township First Aid and Rescue Squad , Howell Police EMS, Farmingdale-Howell First Aid Squad, and the Howell Office of Emergency Management, Southard Fire Company said.

The fire companies cleared the scene after about two hours, Southard officials said.

The Howell Township Fire Bureau investigated. Howell police shut down the road and kept bystanders away from the scene.

The home had been an Oxford House sober living facility for men, according to the Oxford House website.
