According to Silvana Cardell, chair of the Department of Dance, this year’s spring dance concert will be dedicated to Trisha Brown (1936–2017), one of the most acclaimed and influential American dance innovators, who founded the Trisha Brown Dance Company (TBDC) in 1970. Upon her death in March at the age of 80, TBDC’s resident scholar, Susan Rosenberg, wrote that Ms. Brown was “the creator of over 100 choreographies, six operas, and a graphic artist” and that her “movement vocabulary, and the new methods that she and her dancers adopted to train their bodies, remain one of her most pervasively impactful legacies within international dance practice.”
