HOWELL, NJ - Bed, Bath & Beyond will reportedly close 200 locations (roughly 20 percent of stores) nationwide, according to a USA Today report released Friday.

The first 63 sites across the country to shutter include two in New Jersey: Howell in Monmouth County and Rockaway in Morris County.

Specific closing dates were not yet announced, but a source at the Howell store told Patch that an early January 2021 closure can be expected.

The Union-based company also operates Christmas Tree Shops, Harmon Face Values, Buybuy Baby and Cost Plus World Market.

There are currently 36 Bed Bath & Beyond stores in the state, according to the company's website. Sewell and Newton locations have closed in 2020 so far.

Bed Bath & Beyond CEO Mark Tritton previously indicated that closing 200 locations would spare the brand between $250 and $350 million annually after one-time costs. The negative economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic were "felt across our business during our fiscal first quarter, including loss of sales due to temporary store closures."

"As we rebuild our authority and establish a truly omni-always shopping experience for our customers, we recently announced a store optimization plan that will see us establish the right network of stores to serve our customers," spokeswoman Jessica Joyce shared in a statement to USA Today.
