Howell Man Struck And Killed While Sweeping In Front Of His Home

A Howell Township man who was sweeping in front of his Friendship Road home early Wednesday evening has died from injuries after he was struck by a car.
Leslie Stein, 65, suffered traumatic injuries in the 5:13 p.m. accident on Oct. 21. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, a spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Howell police who responded to the accident determined that Kathleen L. Mackey was heading eastbound on Friendship Road when she struck Stein, spokesman Charles Webster said.

An investigation by Howell police, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team determined that Mackey was driving with a suspended license, Webster said.
Mackey was charged with the third-degree crime of causing death while driving while suspended or revoked. She was also issued a motor vehicle summons for driving with a suspended license. Howell Municipal Court Judge Susan Clark set Mackey‘s bail at $30,000 with a 10 percent option. She posted bail and was released.
