Howell Petco To Close In August

HOWELL, NJ – Starting next month, Fido will have to find his treats elsewhere as Howell Petco prepares to close its doors on August 2. A Burlington Coat Factory and an Old Navy storefront are slated to move into the Howell Commons plaza upon Petco’s departure.

The location has been open since 2003 and has provided four-legged members of the community with grooming, training and vaccination services. All live animals at the shop will be transferred to other locations, including nearby Petco stores, according to the store manager.

Although the store will not be offering any liquidation sales in an attempt to avoid large crowds during the coronavirus pandemic, aquarium tanks and other pet store fixtures will be available upon request.

A July 7 post in Howell Happenings NJ touted the storefront as a neighborhood convenience for pet items.

“How sad,” wrote one user.

“Terrible,” wrote another.

In February, it was rumored that the location would be moving out of the plaza along with neighboring Pier 1. At the same time, the Howell Township Planning Board approved a 2,820 square foot addition to the Howell Commons shopping center, as reported by 94.3 The Point.

Nearby pet stores include The Hungry Puppy in Farmingdale and PetSmart in Howell.
