Howell Police Corporal Retires After 28 Years; Hear His Last Call
Cpl. Kevin Steinard retired from the Howell police force on July 1 after 28 years with the township.
HOWELL, NJ — The Howell Township Police Department bid farewell to one of its longtime officers, who retired after nearly 30 years in law enforcement.
Cpl. Kevin Steinard, Badge No. 172, retired from Howell on July 1, but on June 28 the department held Steinard's last call ceremony.
"Officers, administrative assistants, telecommunicators and court personnel greeted Cpl. Steinard as he finished his last day in uniform," Howell police said in a post on Facebook that included video of the ceremony.

"One-seven-two base," he says, wiping his eyes after salutes and hugs all around. "One-seven-two, go ahead," comes the reply.
"Base, (words unclear) is going 10-7. Thank you for everything," Steinard says. "One-seven-two we wish you the best. 1441 hours," comes the reply. The 10-7 police code stands for "out of service."

Steinard began his career in 1989 as a police officer in Manchester and wsa hired in Howell in 1990.
"For the next 28 years, Cpl. Steinard served with professionalism and pride. He was a strong supporter of the Police Athletic League and Explorer Program," the post said. Steinard was a field training officer, member of the Howell SWAT team, Honor Guard and a long-time school resource officer in both the elementary and high school districts.
"As a police explorer, I had the opportunity to go on ride-alongs with then-Patrolman Steinard. His calm demeanor, professional conduct and knowledge of the job was always remarkable. He is the perfect example of a police officer. Being able to thank him and be part of his last day will always be a highlight in my tenure as chief," Police Chief Andrew J. Kudrick said.
"The officers and staff of the Howell Police Department wish Cpl. Steinard a happy and healthy retirement. You did your job, Sir. And did it extremely well. Thank you. You are 10-7."
