Howell Police Officer Seriously Hurt In Head-On Crash: Police

The other driver also was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.

HOWELL, NJ — A Howell Township police officer was seriously injured and a second person suffered "moderate" injuries Friday in a head-on collision in Howell, police said.

The collision happened on Manassa Road near North Road late Friday afternoon, police said. The driver of the second car entered the officer's lane of travel and hit the police officer's car head-on, the initial investigation showed.

The officer suffered "a significant leg injury" and cuts to his face, police said. The type of injuries the other driver suffered were not described beyond police saying they were moderate injuries.

Both were taken to the hospital for treatment, police said.

Manassa Road is closed while the investigation is being conducted. Police said additional information on the crash would be released later.
