The annual strength competition is a fundraiser for Special Olympics New Jersey.

NEWARK, NJ — How fast can a group of people grab a rope and move a 93,000-pound Boeing 737 12 feet?

The Howell Township Police Department answered that question on Saturday morning with 20 members of its Special Olympics New Jersey Plane Pull team moving the jetliner the required 12 feet in a crisp 8.79 seconds.

The 21st annual Plane Pull competition, held at Newark Liberty International Airport, raises funds for Special Olympics New Jersey athletes.

The competition included awards for the fastest pull and for the lowest combined weight of team members it took to pull the plane the 12 feet, according to Special Olympics New Jersey's website. Howell used 10 of its 20-member team, weighing 2,196.5 pounds total, to achieve the feat.

"It was an amazing morning for a great cause," the police department said in a Facebook post. The team was organized by Howell Police Lieutenant Joe Markulic.
