Howell Schools Announce Weather Decision For March 14

HOWELL, NJ — Students who attend Howell and Farmingdale schools will get to sleep in on Tuesday, after the elementary and high school districts announced the schools will be closed due to the impending blizzard.

The Howell Township School District, Farmingdale School, and the Freehold Regional High School District anounced the closures Monday afternoon in advance of the storm.

The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for Monmouth County (and several other New Jersey counties) early in the day on Monday, and calling for heavy snow, winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts of 50 mph from the storm that is expected to affect much of the Northeast. The blizzard warning begins at 8 p.m. Monday and is expected to run through 6 p.m. Tuesday, and forecasters with the weather service are urging people to stay off the roads.

In addition to Howell and the Freehold Regional district, the following schools are closed:

• Advantage Career Institute, Eatontown
• St. Jerome School, West Long Branch
• St. James Elementary School and Red Bank Catholic High School, Little Silver
• St. John Vianney High School, Holmdel
• Brookdale Community College: All locations, all classes and all activities are closed and canceled. The Brookdale/Rutgers Open House has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 28, 6-8 p.m. at Brookdale's Freehold Campus.
• Monmouth County Vocational Schools: All full-time career academies, shared-time career schools and evening adult school programs are canceled.
• Georgian Court University, Lakewood
• Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft; the Mothers Club Retreat scheduled for Tuesday also is canceled
