Howell Waives Permit Fees For Storm Repairs

Construction applications to repair damage must be filed by Sept. 30, officials said.

HOWELL, NJ — If you need to make significant repairs to your home or property from damage as a result of the Aug. 13 storm, the Howell Township Council has waived permit fees.

The waiver for construction permit fees will be in place for applications received by Sept. 30, 2018, according to a notice on the township's website.

The damage must first be inspected by the Howell Township Building Department and confirmed as having been directly caused by the Aug. 13, 2018 storm, officials said.

The storm dropped more than 7 inches of rain on Howell in less than 3 hours that day, causing flash flooding that closed a number of roads and damaged bridges. Ramstown-Greenville Road remains closed because flooding washed out part of the bridge. Efforts are under way to repair the bridge, according to an update given at the Township Counicl meeting on Sept. 4. That bridge is anticipated to reopen possibly as soon as the beginning of October, officials said.

The waiver applies only to municipal fees; there are other fees charged by the state.
