For five decades students have walked the halls of the and this year the building is celebrating its 50th birthday.
Last week students gathered in the gymnasium for a special celebration of the significant milestone. The school's Principal Sandra DeYonker said during the party she answered questions about the school and its history over the past 50 years. It was also a time to give special recognition to some of the second generation students who have followed their parents' footsteps through the building.
After 50 years, not only are there children of former students roaming the halls, but, DeYonker said, there are also teachers who were once pupils there. As part of the celebration Vice Principal Heather Gladkowski brought in a birthday cake. Mary Lou Rosenthal admirably filled the role of the school's pirate mascot also lead the students in a rousing rendition of the "Happy Birthday" song.

DeYonker said the event last week was just one part of the celebration of the school's half century of service to the town. "Land O'Pines will be celebrating its 50th anniversary throughout the year, and a special culminating event is being planned for the end of the year," she said.
