Memorial Day Ceremony, Parade Set For Farmingdale

The 49th annual parade kicks off at 1 p.m., after Memorial Day ceremony; inbound roads will close at noon until the parade is over.

FARMINGDALE, N.J.— The 49th annual Farmingdale Memorial Day Parade will start at Southard and Academy streets at 1 p.m. Monday, May 30.

But before the parade, a Memorial Day ceremony by American Legion Post 178 to honor fallen military will take place at 11:30 a.m. at Lutz Park, according to the borough.

Visitors are asked to not park along the town's parade route from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day. All roads in and leading into Farmingdale will be closed at noon Monday until the parade is completed.

For the first time, anyone can watch the parade live from the borough's Facebook page. Vendors will also be on hand for visitors.

Memorial Day honors the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. It was originally known as Decoration Day and originated in the years following the Civil War, according to History.com. It became an official federal holiday in 1971.
