Over $5000 donated in honor of local preschooler who passed away

The Learning Experience®, one of the nation’s fastest-growing Academies of Early Education for children six weeks to six years old, in Jackson, New Jersey, hosted a fundraising event in honor of former student Jake Honig who passed away from cancer in January 2018. The community-supported event held on Thursday, March 29, 2018, at The Columbian Club in Jackson raised over $5,000. All funds were donated to Squan-A-Thon, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing financial and emotional assistance to local families affected by pediatric cancer and other serious illnesses.

Following the passing of 7-year-old Jake, his former teachers at The Learning Experience garnered the support of more than 100 participants from the Academy and community. The fundraiser event highlights included a dance-a-thon, a fully catered meal donated by Bella Italia, and raffles with prizes such as gift cards for use at Disney’s Theme Parks, Southwest Airlines, Hotels.com, and two VIP tickets to a Boston Red Sox game.

“We were beyond grateful for the significant support of the fundraiser in honor of an incredible student who we were afforded the opportunity to teach, care for, and truly adore,” said Tirusha Dave, Center Director of The Learning Experience in Jackson. “It’s important to us to find impactful ways to implement what we teach our students through our national philanthropy curriculum while involving the community, and this was certainly a worthy cause that hits close to home.”

Special guests at the event included Ally Deforge, Miss Ocean County 2018; Amanda Peacock, Miss Veterans Day 2018; and Paige Anderson, Miss Ocean County’s Outstanding Teen 2018.
