Power Outages From Damage At Two Substations Hit Howell, Farmingdale

HOWELL, NJ — JCP&L restored power Tuesday before 6 p.m. to about 2,700 customers in the northern Howell-Farmingdale area after a substation malfunction interrupted service there.

But after that problem was solved, another substation problem left 90 customers affected, the company said.

Chris Hoenig, a company spokesman, said the Farmingdale Substation in Farmingdale malfunctioned at about 1:15 p.m. because of a blown fuse. Some residents on Facebook referenced smoke or wires down, but Hoenig said he was not aware of any wires down. Smoke might have been coming from the substation, he said.

Meanwhile, as of 6 p.m. Tuesday, the company was working on another blown fuse at the Larrabee Substation in Howell. That problem affected about 90 customers he said, and it was expected that power would be restored Tuesday evening.
