Flooding Damages 2 Bridges In Howell, Forces Detours

Plans to use Ramtown Greenville Road as a detour for a Lakewood Allenwood closure have been scrapped after a bridge collapse, police said.

HOWELL, NJ — Motorists will be forced to take other routes after one bridge collapsed and a second was compromised by flash flooding from Monday's heavy storms, Howell Township police said.

Flooding undermined the bridge on Lakewood-Allenwood Road between Cascades Boulevard and Vienna Road, police said Monday afternoon.

The bridge was deemed structurally unsafe and the road closed indefinitely, police said. The plan was to reroute traffic using Ramtown Greenville Road.

However, the bridge on Ramtown Greenville Road between Arnold Boulevard and Moses Milch Road collapsed, police said late Monday.

"This was the alternate route for the Lakewood Allenwood closure," police said. "This is going to cause significant traffic issues around the Ramtown section. Detours will be in place."
