Sharp Shooting Indians Too Much For Lady Rebels

Howell squad moves to 5-7 with loss

When the Toms River South Indians came to town on Monday afternoon they showed why they are one of the most potent offenses in the Shore Conference.

Goalie Stephanie Lehner had one of her most challenging days of the season on Monday as the visiting team fired off an impressive 32 shots on their way to a 20-12 win over the Lady Rebels.

Howell Coach Christina Nunez said the Indians put on an impressive offensive performance that was a real test of her squad's defensive abilities. "They can shoot on the fly," she said. "You had to be stick to stick with them because their passing and catching was so accurate."

Being so adept at moving the ball down the field made the Toms River squad that much harder to stop despite Howell's best efforts.

On the other side of the field, Alexa Masino was the top scorer for her team with all four goals coming in the second half. Ryley High was a close second with three, while Lauren Christie and Maria Madsen each had two scores in the game. When it came to assists, Catherine Brown lead the team with two to help keep them in the game.

Now two games under .500, Coach Nunez said she still sees plenty of potential in the squad. "I think we're getting back together," she said. "We're starting to play together and be a team."

The girls will need to stay a cohesive unit for the rest of the week as they have a pair of key games. The action was scheduled to kick off Tuesday with the very short trip to arch rival Freehold Township. After that they will return to action on Thursday when the Knights from Wall Township come to town.
