Heavy rain and strong winds in the passing thunderstorms brought down trees, police said.

HOWELL, NJ — The Howell Township Police Department was forced to operate on generator power for part of Monday night after strong winds brought along in the passing stormfront toppled a tree on Squankum-Yellowbrook Road.
The police department, in a post on Facebook, said the tree, which came down near the intersection with Route 547, brought down power lines.
According to the First Energy outage page, power was expected to be restored to the area by about 11 p.m. The police department was operating on power from a generator in the meantime, the department said.
